Hearts of Joy

Sometimes our hearts are heavy because of sadness in our lives,
But other times because of joy, they seem so full but light!

Those burdens we can’t carry and turn over to the Lord,
He takes that load upon Himself, so we won’t have it any more.

What made our hearts so heavy He releases from our care,
And trades the hurt and heartache with the joy He places there.

This poem came to me when someone dear to me who is struggling through a difficult time and shared the need for prayer prompted this thought: Isn’t it interesting that when our hearts are filled with sadness, they are heavy. But when we have hearts full of joy, they are light. Isn’t it also amazing that at both times and with different circumstances, they are full? And we speak of our hearts breaking when we’re sad and bursting when we’re joyful! When we cast our cares on Him, He heals the broken heart and the repair work He does, causes the bursting one! His restoration “project” always reveals a loving God who won’t let our hearts stay heavy for long and makes them joyfully light when we trust Him with all that is difficult in our lives. “A merry heart doeth good” and when our heart is heavy, it can’t be very merry! The Bible also says “joy comes in the morning.” When we release our heavy hearts to the Lord at the end of the day, He starts us out fresh each day with a new beginning and a light heart. Our joy is made full in Him!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace.
