Life and Death, His Will

Poems For Life Newsletter :: February 17, 2010

Lord, I pray for comfort from You
For those whose tasks are hard to do,
Tasks that touch on life and death
That cause reflection on one’s last breath.

Help them remember that You’re in control
From first breath to last
Each life You well know.
Remind those who work to serve You and man
In the strength of our Lord, they should do what they can;

And then they can trust in Your perfect will
And hear Your sweet words “Child, be still.”
Help them receive Your promise of hope
Your comfort and care, help them to know;
You’re with them in all they have to do
Fill them with peace as they fully trust You!

I dedicate this poem/application/newsletter to the people who serve in the military and see life and death circumstances every day and all the time.

In the struggle to understand and accept all that they see and deal with regularly, and to know that they are helpless to change the outcome as they see their comrades wounded and/or killed, are images and thoughts they live with and come away with! For those who know the Lord and know He is in control, there is comfort and solace that He knows all and surely, the beginning to end for each

He is the Rock and the Refuge to go to with roller coaster emotions and difficult questions. He soothes the hurting heart and brings peace when all has been given to Him. He is never surprised by death or the way it comes about, but when there is suffering and grief, He helps us bear all that we must. He equips us for the difficult job(s) and is there with us to carry them through. And He is there to restore joy and fulfillment in Christ and reminds us of the purpose of one whose life has been dedicated to serve Him and man – even in dangerous and deadly positions and places. He is glorified in the midst of chaos and confusion, and others are helped and encouraged as we tell them of His love and provision.

The message is about life and death because the subject is life and death. All hope is in Christ because He is life – for now and forever!

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1

We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep (died) in Him.
1 Thessalonians 4:14

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13

…who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
2 Corinthians 1:4
